Gifts to the Annual Fund are unrestricted – though they may be directed to provide general support to a specific academic program – and they help the Institute maintain its academic excellence.

Christine Bridges Nursing Scholarship

A faculty member since 1996, Clinical Assistant Professor Christine Bridges, DNSc, passed away June 9, 2004. Dr. Bridges taught maternal and child nursing, community health, as well as the History of Nursing Ideas. She was interested in children's health beliefs and behaviors, along with community theory and assessment. Among her many scholarly endeavors and publications, she contributed to the text book Fuzard's Innovative Teaching Strategies in Nursing. At the onset of her illness Dr. Bridges was helping to develop a new nurse educator program at the Institute. She was not only a nurse and educator, but an active member of her community, running eight marathons, and regularly volunteering with the Boston Ballet and numerous Wakefield community groups. To honor Chris' memory, the Graduate Program in Nursing established a nursing scholarship fund in her name.

President's Scholarship Fund
Established in 1999, with gifts primarily from faculty and the board of trustees, to honor the installation of Ann W. Caldwell as president of the Institute, it is used to offer merit scholarships in a manner that promotes the Institute's diversity goals – affirming the belief that increasing diversity among the student body, and within the health care professions, not only helps enrich the educational experience for all, but ultimately improves the quality of patient care by training culturally aware, sensitive and competent caregivers.

Nancy T. Watts Fellowship for Interdisciplinary Studies

As a physical therapist and educator, Professor and Faculty Emerita Nancy T. Watts has been a key figure in the health professions for decades. Arriving at MGH in 1974 as Assistant Director of Educational Planning, she played a key role in the development of the Institute – later serving as Acting Provost of the new organization. In recognition of her collective contributions to the MGH Institute and the physical therapy profession, the Board of Trustee established a fund in her honor in 2004 to support her passionate belief in interdisciplinary education. Watts Fellows will pursue one of several courses of study, with emphasis on meeting the growing need for skilled faculty at levels of health education.

Leadership Giving Circles

Donors who make gifts of $100 or more are the Institute's philanthropic leaders and as such are recognized by giving level in the annual report. (Donors may also choose to remain anonymous.) Leadership recognition is based on a donor's cumulative giving level within each fiscal year. Leadership gifts may also be pledged and fulfilled through monthly or quarterly payments.
